When faced with a problem or a difficult situation, it can feel that we have no choices or that our choices have been taken away from us. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) reminds us that we do have choice. This can help us to decide how to deal with it which can be empowering. Not choosing is also a choice, as is giving someone else the power to make the choice for us.
Remember you do have choice. Even if there is nothing you can change about a situation, you can still change how you look at it.
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes - Marcel Proust
Often it is our perspective - particularly if its very rigid, or filled with resentment/blame towards someone else, that gets in the way to how we move forward. Next time you feel stuck, remind yourself that you can make a choice.
You can rise up from anything. You can completely recreate yourself. Nothing is permanent. You're not stuck. You have choices. You can learn something new. You can create new habits. All that matters is that you decide today and never look back - Unknown
