About The Seven Principles Couples Program

Dr John Gottman revolutionised the study of marriage by using rigorous scientific procedures to observe the habits of married couples in unprecedented detail over many years, and published the book The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, with Nan Silver.

The aim of the program is to provide couples with practical tools to enhance and improve their relationships while understanding the research-based foundation from which the tools and skills are derived. Both partners must attend - a class format encourages both partners to work on their relationship. Reading the book is not compulsory - the class lectures will summarise the content of the book.

This program does not provide counselling nor is it intended to take the place of couples counselling, but it does provide practical skills in a psychoeducational format that can help couples strengthen their relationships.

What you will learn

This 12-hour online program (over 8x1.5 hour sessions on Zoom) provides proven tools to help couples:

  • Improve friendship, fondness and admiration

  • Gain skills to address perpetual and solvable problems

  • Create shared meaning

  • Maintain gains throughout a lifetime
